Client: Van Abbe Museum

Location: Eindhoven, The Netherlands

'The architecture of the Van Abbe museum building and the exhibition both impact how the visitor experiences the works of art. This is not a space is an audible fictional layer superimposed on the physical surroundings. It gradually becomes an unquestioned part of the architecture. The illusion of new space draws the visitor through the exhibition along unanticipated ways, so as to experience surprising moments of confrontation, recognition and contemplation.'

The installation consists of headphones that receive a locally hosted radio channel throughout the museum. This allows for the user to wirelessly explore the exhibitions. The looping soundtrack that is played back on the radio channel tells acoustic stories of fictional places and spaces, and adopts binaural stereo for an immersive sense of space.
